Colocation providers: a guide to selecting the right one

The benefits of colocation are well documented, and making a business case for it is often quite easy for many organizations. Once the decision is made to outsource some or all of your IT infrastructure, there is plenty of work to do including selecting the right colocation provider. There are many factors to consider when selecting the one that can best meet your organization’s needs

The last thing you want to do is move your IT assets to an off-site data center, get things up and running and then have the colocation provider go out of business a year or two later. It happens, and it can prove extremely costly and disruptive to your operations. When checking out various providers, consider their financial security and the stability of their operations. Make sure the provider can successfully maintain operations and enhance them at least for the next five years.

Keep in mind that financially secure colocation providers are also more likely to have the resources to invest in additional buildouts for a data center as well as to continually upgrade or add new technologies and equipment. Look for providers that have a track record of successful expansion and continue to evolve their services and invest in new technologies
