The newest threat in workplace health is presenteeism: the act of attending work while sick, and it's on the rise.
A survey conducted by Staples Advantage found that 90 percent of employees go to work when they know they were sick. Sneezing, coughing, and hand contact leads to the spread of germs throughout the workplace. This is especially true on railings, elevator buttons, doorknobs, and in communal areas such as breakrooms and restrooms, getting even more employees sick.
Illness in the workplace impacts businesses in a variety of ways, from loss in productivity to increased labor, payroll, and administrative costs.
